The 14th Post

I don't really have anything to say, however I thought 13 was an ominous number of posts. This is my attempt to remedy the situation.

Not that I'm particularly superstitious. I know for a fact I opened an umbrella indoors last semester, potentially more than once. And I step on sidewalk cracks all the time.

I know, it's a dangerous life I lead.

Now I'm going to attempt to clean my room, which has the potential to develop into one of the more harrowing pursuits in my recent history.

Tennis anyone?

The padre and I played tennis this morning for the first time in at least a year. It was kind of sad, my form has really deteriorated. Not that that should come as a surprise. But between one good serve and a few good shots it was almost encouragement to start playing regularly(ish) again. We'll see how that goes.

Yesterday Fiore and I were doing some people watching at the Jazz and Blues series at the Hyatt, and we saw a woman coupling heels and a fanny pack.

Wait, let me say it again, A FANNY PACK. Really, that's unacceptable. I would not even wear a Gucci fanny pack:

Although I might consider this one..... :

We also spotted a woman who had to be in her 40's wearing some sort of fringed backless top. Yessss.

People watching is definitely my favorite sport. And I'm much better at it than tennis.

Thank you, Hallmark channel

This film was quite the find. Based on a romance novel, and has a relatively well known cast. Well done Hallmark. Television has come so far since the days when only Lifetime provided a quality made for tv movie.

*Dun dun*

Currently watching one of the best television shows ever made (see left). I think I've seen this episode at least twice already but it doesn't phase me. Actually I didn't even remember it ending like this. Man that's sad. But see! Never gets old.

This has been a good week. Lots of time with Fiore- shopping, eating, lazing. Attempted to climb Franklin the Valencia Heritage Park Arts Bear wearing our Legends of Hidden Temple Purple Parrot shirts but apparently they've taken him away for renovation. Seriously, leave a note or something. If you take away a giant bear people are going to notice.

Oh sweet, just got my new check card in the mail and I've been upgraded from gold to silver. Its weird that my first one expired. This one expires in 2010.... I don't even want to think that far ahead. Of course that's what I thought when I got my first one. Although it is a little weird that this one has the same picture on it. That means technically I could be using a picture in 2010 that was taken in 2002. Not that I'll age at all. Maybe by then I'll look 20.

Today (for once) I did the opposite of buying and actually returned a pair of shoes. Craziness. They were from Payless so it didn't net me very much however it'll be one less item on my floor and one less decision to make while packing.

And now that I've mentioned that dreaded word I'll retreat back into the land of denial.

Sunday

Up a little early today (voluntarily no less). But it has 3 primary rewards, in the form of:
1)coffee
2)a long sleeved shirt
3)sleepy pups

Not to mention the fact that I won't feel like I've wasted half the day.

One of my English profs last year warned against using the phrase "the fact that" because often it refers to something that isn't really a fact. Which is a valid point- I still might waste [half] the day. But maybe I won't feel like I did?

I need to go to the library. Except if I check out more books I'll have to pay the fines on my old ones. Although that amount has to be less than what I spend on coffee almost every day so that really isn't a good argument.

Note: Today the minivan tackles the freeway.

Marionettes: Friend or Foe

Boredom drives me to post.

Got my classes for Bath:
-The Beast, Big Brother, and Beyond: British Fiction since 1945
-The Writings of Virginia Woolf
-Science and Spirituality
-Myths and Legends of the British Isles

I'm pretty satisfied on the whole. I only have class T/W/Th, which makes me happy. I just hope that I don't have to read To the Lighthouse again. Twice is enough thanks.

Yesterday on the la county intern field trip I saw this:

Yep those are puppets. Yep they sang and danced. My life might be complete now. Also, they have a party room, so I'm thinking it's a great place to ring in my 21st.

I don't think I can top what I just wrote so I'll stop for today.

I'll trade you this paperclip for your grillz

I read two articles today that made me laugh:
-one about a guy who started with a red paperclip and, trading up through craigslist for bigger and better things, ended up with a house
-another about a district in texas that has outlawed grillz at school

i think both of these are pretty awesome. i wonder how many people saw that paperclip story and got on craigslist to do the same thing? i also wonder if the first person to trade with the paperclip guy (generously offering up their fish pen) still has the o.g red paperclip? things to ponder.

my brother and dad hiked mt whitney (aka highest mt in us) over the weekend....mostly i think they're insane. i guess when they got to the top they could feel thunderstorms looming so strongly that their hair was sticking up due to static electricity.

although they did see a few marmots. i would've enjoyed that.

fiiinally made my eye appt. with kaiser, and didn't have to listen to anymore muzak to do it. that'll probably be the one success of my day.

got my housing info for Bath, which is ..... interesting. hopefully it will turn out interesting in a good way.

All I want to do is bicycle

Well not really. I haven't even been on a bicycle in at least a year. But apparently that's all Queen wanted to do. I have to admit, the concert in the park sufficiently rocked me. Perhaps not as much as We Will Rock You, but satisfying nonetheless.

A very very small part of me feels like I'm at school right now. Mainly because it's one of those weeks where I can see clearly the days stretched out in front of me, and everything I have to do that I'm dreading, and I just want it to be the weekend already.

Mack and I experienced a perfect Santa Clarita moment on Saturday: we went to seek out shade at the park and the best we could find came from a Ford F150. Ah, how poetic.

I would really like to kick my ass back into shape, yet I have so little motivation without the peer pressure of the Fitwell classes. Also there's the fact that if i wanted to run/walk tomorrow before work I'd have to wake up at like 5:50am.

My computer makes this very high pitched dog-whistle-esque noise if i'm not 1) pressing the mouse button or 2) playing music. Bizarre. Sort of like Mack's ipod, and how sometimes it won't work unless it's being held. And they say machines aren't needy like humans.

Hey for the first time I'm listening to 'July! July!' and it's actually July (!). Who'd have thought.

I need to do laundry. My 'corporate casual' supply might have run dry. I'll deal with this problem in the morning.

Sky rockets in flight

While I was at school my family got a new toaster.

It's a freaking rocketship.

Do toasters really need to be that complex? What's wrong with the traditional 1-5 knob and push bar? This one has buttons and lights and two twisty things and if it wasn't for the fact that I smelled my toast being done I definitely would've burnt it. On the plus side, it has a bagel button that looks intriguing.

When I woke up this morning my phone language had been changed to Portugese. I think that pretty much sums up my evening (if such a thing could be done).

Must make my way to the shower now.

Dancing with Yourself?

So today I was waiting outside of Pavillions with a coworker's dog while she ran in and got coffee, and this man walked into the store whistling "Dancing with Myself." I'm sure this probably reveals nothing about his life besides which song was stuck in his head, however it seemed like a sad song to be whistling alone.

On another note, I was never a huge online shopper, right? And yet in the last, say, 5 days, I've bought: a coat, a pair of Rocket Dogs, Keeping the Faith on DVD, and the first season of Grey's. It's too easy to spend nowadays. I need to slow down so I can fund my European travels, and ultimately graduate from college with a savings account of sorts.

I would really enjoy it if Ben Folds would journey back to the US so that I could see him in concert. Damn you Lepp and your luck. Also, damn the fact that my "j" key is sticking, making words like "enjoy" and "journey" especially difficult.

Sometimes I wish my summer could just pass in a montage of all the particularly good moments, just to move it along.

And now that I feel like an emo 16 year old for having written that, I'm going to remind myself that I'm 20 by paying a credit card bill or something.

Next I'll build a snowman

Man is my cubicle cold. Well it's not so much a cubicle as a half wall-half cubicle...a halficle? In any case, I forgot a jacket today and my hands are freezing. I think I'll bring in some gloves. The irony, of course, is that it's probably 100 degrees outside.

This is the time of day where my brain just turns into mush and refuses to be gainfully employed (case in point). Sentences are becoming a challenge so I'll downgrade to bullets.

-pink post-its are an excellent desk-drawer find
-make my final obligatory trip to robeks tonight to pick up the check and turn in the shirts
-a third season of project runway is airing this summer, yesss
-there is a giant art bear in the city hall entryway. i had previously named him lenny, however mack pointed out the of mice and men reference. so henceforth he shall be known as....Franklin. Franklin the (Enormous) City Hall Arts Bear. and no, he does not go by "frank" or "frankie."

Now I'd better vacate the premises before I turn into a robyn-pop.

nectawhat?

so on the corner of my desk is a nectarine. sure, i'm well acquainted with the name. but after pondering it for a few minutes, i realized that i could not think of the flavor. it may be that i've never eaten a nectarine before. if i had to guess i would place it in the peach family because of its color, and the tangarine family because of its suffix. ..but who really knows?

what a thrilling writer i am. i noticed while setting up this page that one of the taglines for blogspot is "pushbutton publishing." now while that might be true in theory, i hope that the majority of blogspotters out there (excusing the few authors who also have blogs) understand that they are not, in fact, publishing anything. except their commentary. which probably goes unread by the majority of the population.

summary of post: i need more to do at work. or should work harder on previously assigned tasks.
